Identifying Your Radio

As a beginning point we suggest you visit www.repeater-builder.com and look in the Midland section at the model chart.  You can also enter the radio model number in any search engine, such as Google.  Please check out the resources page for more sites and venders of quality after-market products for your Midland radio.

Syntech (referred to as Syntech I) radios are not PC programmable with an interface cable.  They have no programming port and use a EPROM module which must be removed from the radio to be programmed.   They can be confused with Syntech II radios because they look similar.  Please see our Syntech 1 page for more information about Syntech I radios, programming, and where to purchase a programmer.

XTR Programming Ports

  I

The XTR and Syntech II have a rubber plug that covers the programming port.  Prying the plug open will reveal a 10 pin IDC connector.  If your Midland mobile radio does not have this connector, you have either a Syntech I, Bantam, or Titan. The XTR1 only programs XTR and Syntech II mobile radios.   As a general rule, a model number such as 70-XXX is a Syntech I and a model number such as 70-XXXX is a Syntech II, XTR, Titan, or Bantam.

If your Radio does not have a port similar to the ones pictured, please check out our Bantam, Syntech I, and Titan pages. If you have a Bantam or Titan, GCC offers an adaptor for the XTR/Syntech II programmer that will program these radios.
