Modification of Ribbon Cable for a "Universal Adaptor"

Cut the ribbon cable 6 to 10 inches from the radio plug and insert male and female DB9 connectors.  The quickest and easiest way to do this is use a DB9 connector made to accept IDC cable.  Wire #10 (pink arrow points to it) is cut near the connector (the connector will only accept 9 wires and the #10 wire is not connected to anything or used in the Midland programmer) and squeeze them onto the cables where you cut them.  The DB9 connector that does not have the protruding pins (Female) goes on the cable coming from the programmer.  Be sure to observe proper placement of the cable (marked wire goes on Pin 1).

WARNING! The XTR programmer requires +5v DC for proper operation. Many radios do not supply this voltage and exceeding this voltage may cause  damage to it or your radio.  Our adaptor cables are designed to provide the correct voltage to the XTR programmer.  You should never connect your XTR programmer to a radio that you do not have the proper adaptor cable for.
